‘Help to Buy’ allows family to leave London for new life in Royal Tunbridge Wells

When respected swimming coaches Tim and Melissa Denyer decided to move out of London following the birth of their baby daughter, they had some specific criteria in mind. A new home would need to be more spacious, situated in a safer location with greener surroundings, excellent local facilities and yet still be within commuting distance to London.

After starting their search online, the Denyers began to consider Royal Tunbridge Wells as a genuine possibility, as Melissa explains, “Tunbridge Wells seemed to tick all the right boxes in terms of the type of area we wanted to live in, so we began looking in more detail at what the town could offer”.

At the time, Melissa and Tim were living with their baby daughter in a two-bedroom flat in Canada Water, South East London. Melissa said, “We knew we didn’t want to bring up our new-born daughter in London and were looking for a safer environment. With Tunbridge Wells firmly on our radar, we got onto the Help to Buy website, which is how we first became aware of Dandara. We weren’t specifically looking for a new build but Knights Wood caught our eye and we decided we needed to see it for ourselves.

“When we visited, our first impressions of the development were the extremely high standard of build and an excellent sense of community. We already knew from our own research that the schools in the local area had an excellent reputation but to discover that Skinners’ Kent Primary School was located at Knights Wood was fantastic news and played a big part in our final decision – hopefully our daughter will have the opportunity to go there when she is old enough.

The Denyers now live in a Gala house type at Knights Wood. This beautiful three-bedroom detached home has an attached garage, a separate living room with a feature bay window and a kitchen/dining room with double-doors to the garden.

“We did look at other developments but none of these were serious contenders to Knights Wood, so we were delighted to move into our new home here on September 2017.”

Talking about their new town, Melissa explained what the family enjoys most about Tunbridge Wells, “There really is a slower pace of life here compared to London. The people are friendlier, it feels safer and the local facilities are excellent – plus it is now much easier for us to get out into the countryside. However, it is easy enough for us to get into London when we need to for work.”

In terms of the Knights Wood itself, the Denyers are thrilled with their new home; “We are absolutely delighted with our decision to move here. We have very friendly neighbours and there is a real sense of community. The local retail stores are within walking distance, we breathe fresh air and can actually see the stars at night! We’re really looking forward to getting into the woods when all of the pathways are set up, plus we love hitting the nearby country pubs at the weekend when we’re free!”

Prices at Knights Wood start from £349,000, with Help to Buy available on selected plots.
